Her Majesty's Grav Tanks

Miniatures from Ground Zero Games and Brigade Models.

This army, based loosely on the New Anglican Coalition of Ground Zero Games' "Tuffleyverse" (named for GZG designer Jon Tuffley), was my first foray into the 6mm scale. I chose U.S. army camoflauge colors for their familiar appearance, and applied them with an airbrush to achieve the random splattering effect. Although the white star markings were removed from U.S. tank turrets when enemies started using them as aiming markers, I liked the visual appeal enough to include them on some units. The ones you see here were my first attempt at custom-printed decals.

It's probably apparent that my "NAC" is far more American-dominated than Mr. Tuffley's original concept. What else would you expect from a Yank?

The buildings are Ground Zero Games modular structures and an Armorcast modular refinery.

North-class grav APCs stand ready to move troops into battle. Two anti-air variants provide cover.

Models are GZG DSM-123 ("VIRNAZH medium grav APC/MICV"). The anti-air turret comes from GZG turret pack DSM-145.

Two Intrepid and four Indomitable AFVs fill the light-armor role.

Models are GZG DSM-114 ("AVRAZH medium grav APC"). The missile rack turret comes from GZG turret pack DSM-145.

Powell light tanks, with two different turret configurations.

Models are GZG DSM-111 ("KIVRUZH medium grav tank"). The rightmost turrets come from GZG turret pack DSM-145.

And the Schwartzkopf main battle tanks provide muscle where it's needed most. (Secret to getting things named after you: master maneuver warfare? No. Have a name like "Schwartzkopf.")

Models are GZG DSM-116 ("PORUZH heavy grav tank"). The railgun (longer single-barrel) turret comes from GZG turret pack DSM-145.

M-238 Clydesdales with their 450mm low-velocity mass drivers can drop the hammer on those pesky infantry - and on bystanders, refugees, infrastructure, foliage, and just about anything else.

GZG DF-A01 ("JUPITER tracked heavy SP artillery").

M-231 Llamas are an able alternative when the bigger guns aren't needed.

GZG DF-A02 ("NOVA tracked SP artillery").

The Aussies weigh in with the Wallabee combat engineering vehicle and the Walkabout bridgelayer.

GZG DF-S17 ("DEIMOS combat engineering vehicle") and Brigade SF-300-201h ("Boyd Bridgelayer Tank").

The M-197 antiaircraft chain gun emplacement helps the troops sleep a little easier at night. They've been known to bring down choppers, attack planes, missiles - and even a flock of ducks for some variety in the chow line.

Brigade SF-300-309 ("Fixed AA Mount").

And of course you can't take territory without boys on the ground to make it happen.

GZG DSM-127 ("NAC Infantry Platoon" - rifle, SAW, and rocket launcher), Brigade SF-300-5001 (generic infantry mortar).

GEV skimmers give the foot-sloggers a bit more mobility on a rapidly-shifting battlefield.

DSM-144 ("NAC Skimmers").

Powered armor throws hard-shelled tenacity into the mix, shrugging off shrapnel and less-powerful infantry weapons.

GZG DSM-128 ("NAC Power Armor Platoon" - 5 different weapon loadouts).

The ultimate in personal armor, Hound Dog support walkers are half-man, half-tank. Just small enough to crouch behind sandbags, but just large enough to lay down lethally heavy fire.

GZG DSM-139 ("Hound Dog," rear models), DSM-140 ("Hound Dog Support," front models).

H-96 Kestrel attack/transport choppers stand by to insert troops.

GZG DF-V08 ("SV-12 Scout/Recon VTOL").

Hot LZ? H-96a Raptor gunships can cool things down in a hurry.

GZG DF-V06 ("ARIES Attack VTOL").

The F/A-191 Ghost patrols that tenuous frontier between nap-of-earth and the gunboats in orbit ...

GZG DF-V10 ("PHOENIX aerospace strike fighter").

... leaving a clear path for the B-178 Sasquatch to do its grisly work.

GZG DF-V09 ("VALDERIK Ground Support Fighter").

An army is nothing without good logistics. A squadron of C-241 Iroquois stand ready to airlift food, machines, troops, or anything else not nailed down.

GZG DF-V04 ("BOXCAR infantry transport VTOL").

Larger cousin to the Iroquois, the C-268 Seminole chassis found a second life as the infantry-support AC-268 Tlingit.

GZG DF-V05 ("SUPER BOXCAR Heavy Lift VTOL") (Tlingit was modified using turrets from GZG turret packs DSM-145 and DSM-146).

And finally, with a quick swap of turrets, the Schwartzkopf chassis turns into an armored fist of Traveller's Third Imperium. But that's another time, and another story ... .
